We want everyone to be able to use this website, whatever their sight, hearing, mobility or the device they use. This page says what we have done, what we know is not yet good enough, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Please tell us — it is the fastest way for us to fix it, and you should not have to work around a barrier we built. Call 01270 747 989 or email info@proactivlife.co.uk.
You never have to use this website to get our help. Everything on it can be done by phone with a person, including going through your options and arranging advice.
The standard we are working to
We are working towards WCAG 2.2 level AA — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C, which are the recognised benchmark in the UK. We also have duties under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a substantial disadvantage.
We are partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard but some parts do not yet. The known gaps are listed below rather than left for you to discover.
What we have built in
- Keyboard operation. Every link, button, tab, form field and the cookie panel can be reached and used with a keyboard alone. The cookie preference dialog traps focus while open and closes on Escape.
- A visible focus indicator. Whatever you have tabbed to is outlined, so you can always see where you are.
- Skip to content. The first thing a keyboard or screen reader user reaches is a link that jumps past the navigation.
- Text contrast. Body text is set in dark slate on white or ivory to meet the AA contrast ratio. Our gold is deliberately restricted to logo artwork, borders and accents, and is never used for body text on a light background, because it would fail contrast.
- Resizable text. Text can be enlarged to 200% in your browser without content being lost or overlapping.
- Meaningful structure. Headings run in a proper order, so a screen reader can navigate by heading and a person can skim by eye.
- Described images and icons. Images carry alternative text; decorative icons are hidden from screen readers so they are not read out as noise.
- Labelled forms. Every field has a label a screen reader will announce, not just placeholder text that vanishes when you type.
- No colour-only meaning. Where we use claret to flag a warning, the warning also says so in words.
- No moving or flashing content. Nothing auto-plays, scrolls by itself, or flashes. There is no carousel to catch up with.
- Reduced motion. The small fade-in effects respect your operating system's "reduce motion" setting.
- Works on a phone. The layout reflows to one column, and tap targets are sized to be hit with a thumb.
- Printable. These policy pages print cleanly, without navigation furniture, if you would rather read on paper.
What we know is not good enough yet
Publishing an accessibility statement that claims everything is fine would be worse than publishing nothing. These are the issues we are aware of:
| Issue | Who it affects | What to do meanwhile |
|---|---|---|
| The site has not yet been tested with real assistive technology by people who use it daily. Our checks so far have been technical and manual, not user testing. | Screen reader and voice-control users may hit problems we have not found | Tell us what happened and we will fix it and re-test |
| The service information is currently presented in tabbed sections on one long page. This means a lot of content in one place, and the change of tab may not be announced clearly. | Screen reader users; anyone who finds long pages hard to navigate | Call us and we will talk you through the same information. Separate pages per service are planned. |
| Previously screen reader and switch users | Nothing — this one is resolved. Every calculator field is now a standard form control. | |
| National flag icons are used to indicate the languages our advisers speak. | Anyone who cannot see the flags, or does not associate a flag with a language | Every flag is also labelled with the language name in text |
| Some content is not yet available in languages other than English, even though our advisers speak several. | Clients whose first language is not English | Ask for an adviser who speaks your language — the conversation can be in any of the languages we list |
We are also aware that no accessibility work is ever finished. We review this page whenever we make a significant change to the site.
Getting information in a different format
If you need anything from this site in another format, ask and we will provide it free of charge:
- Large print
- Plain text or an accessible document sent by email
- Read aloud to you over the phone, at whatever pace suits you
- In one of the languages our advisers speak
- Sent in advance of a meeting, so you can read it in your own time
We will normally provide it within five working days, and we will tell you if it will take longer. You do not need to explain why you need it.
Adjustments to how we work with you
Accessibility is not only about the website. If it would help, we can:
- Meet by phone or video instead of in person, or in person instead of remotely
- Take more than one meeting to reach a decision, with no pressure to conclude
- Include a family member, friend, carer or interpreter, with your permission
- Confirm everything in writing so you do not have to hold it in your head
- Avoid a communication channel that does not work for you — for example never phoning, and only ever emailing
We record the adjustments you have asked for, so you do not have to ask again each time. You can ask us to stop recording them at any point. How that information is handled is in our Privacy Policy.

It helps if you can tell us which page, what you were trying to do, and what happened — including the device, browser or assistive technology you were using, if you know. But please contact us even if you cannot describe it technically.
We aim to reply within five working days. If you are not satisfied with how we respond, you can treat it as a complaint under our complaints procedure.
If you believe we are failing to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act 2010, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service, which is free and independent.
How this statement was prepared
This statement was prepared on 8 September 2026. The site was assessed by ProActivLife against WCAG 2.2 level AA using manual keyboard testing, contrast measurement of every text and background pairing in the brand palette, structural review of headings and landmarks, and testing at screen widths from 320 pixels upwards and at 200% text zoom.
An independent audit and testing with people who use assistive technology have not yet been carried out. We regard both as necessary and they are planned. We would rather say so here than imply a level of assurance we do not have.
